So You Want to Be a Librarian?

From time to time, I get requests for advice from people considering going to library school or who are about to start an MLS program and are wondering how to make the most of it (and be able to find a job afterwards...).  Now, I am not the expert of the world on such things, but I did have a job lined up before I graduated (in December 2006, so before the economy went all squicky) and I have since gotten another job (at a different library) with more responsibility (in May 2009, so after the economy went all squicky).  Check out the posts below for advice from me and from others around the blogosphere.

  • So You Want to Go to Library School? - This is my post with advice for people considering library school and library school students wondering what to do during library school to make themselves marketable.  I'm writing from the perspective of a youth services librarian, but I think much of the advice transfers to other types of librarianship.
  • What's it like to be a children's librarian?  Check out my Day in the Life of a Children's Librarian for my answer to that question.
